Softball Recap: Sublette Comes Up Short

Sublette had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it 13. They fell 5-1 to the Stanton County Trojans. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Larks couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Stanton County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Stanton County's part, Kaydence McCleary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. McCleary has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Valeria Ortega was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerzey Ochoa, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Stanton County beat Sublette by a score of 11-5 later that day.
