Baseball Recap: Sayre's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Sayre waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Washington County Commanders 13-3. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Lucas Saatman looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Jaxon Herrera was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Charlie Slabaugh, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Sayre always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington County only posted an OBP of .458.

Sayre pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Washington County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sayre will host Tate at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Aggies have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Washington County, they will face off against Glasgow at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The Scotties' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Commanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
