Cody Pfau becomes first girl to win first-round match at Colorado state wrestling tournament

The senior scores 6-5 win at 106 pounds, marking first championship-round victory for a girl in state wrestling annals.

For Cody Pfau, her historic victory in the opening moments of the preliminary round of the Class 3A state wrestling tournament Thursday at the Pepsi Center created a buzz that went through the big arena, but didn't appear to be that big of a deal ... to Pfau.

The senior at Grand Valley (Parachute) edged Ferdinando Martinez of Fort Lupton 6-5 at 106 pounds to become the first girl to win a match in championship rounds since the inaugural state tournament in 1936.
