Softball Recap: Monona Grove Comes Up Short

Monona Grove extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They fell 5-0 to the Waunakee Warriors. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Silver Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Brooklyn Vanden Branden spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

As for Waunakee, the victory got them back to even at 8-8. Five seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Waunakee's side, the team relied heavily on Ryla Ripp, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Ripp has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Audra Ubersox, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Monona Grove and Waunakee could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Silver Eagles will face off against Watertown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (188 vs. 23). Meanwhile, Waunakee (ranked 111th) will meet Oregon (ranked 14th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
