It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gilmer County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Man Hillbillies. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Kolten Holbert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Remington Huffman was excellent, earning two runs and three stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.
Gilmer County pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Man, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9.
Gilmer County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hillbillies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
