Baseball Recap: Foothill Find Success

It's playoff time, and Foothill had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Millikan Rams on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 1st.

Gavin Lauridsen made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Foothill: the team is 10-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Lauridsen was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Lauridsen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Petrossi, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Petrossi a new career-high.

The win made it two in a row for Foothill and bumps their season record up to 18-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Millikan, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-8.

Looking ahead, Foothill will take on San Clemente at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 2.8, the Tritons 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Millikan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
