Basketball Game Preview: Lockhart Lions vs. Wimberley Texans

The Lockhart Lions and the Wimberley Texans will round out the year against one another at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Lockhart has given up an average of 49.6 points per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It was a proper cat-fight when Lockhart took on Liberty Hill on Friday. The Lions took a blow against the Panthers, falling 66-29. The loss continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Wimberley waltzed into their game on Friday with 14 straight wins... but they left with 15. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bulldogs 71-43. The Texans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 25 points or more this season.

Wimberley's win came from a few key players Lockhart will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Paul Gumbert-Mendoza, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. His big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Baker, who shot 59% from the field on his way to 22 points along with five boards and four steals.

Wimberley's victory bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Lockhart, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.

Lockhart came up short against Wimberley in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 75-69. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
