Football Recap: St. Thomas Aquinas Skates Past Riverdale with Ease

It's playoff time, and St. Thomas Aquinas had no trouble coming through when it counted. They claimed a resounding 45-13 victory over Riverdale. Considering St. Thomas Aquinas has won nine matchups by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mason Mallory continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 203 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. What's more, he racked up 146.5 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September. Levi Thomas also helped out with an impressive 90 receiving yards.

St. Thomas Aquinas was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 206 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 176 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Riverdale still got an impressive performance from Marquan Young, who rushed for 109 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries.

St. Thomas Aquinas pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.6 points over those games. As for Riverdale, they moved to 12-2 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, St. Thomas Aquinas will take on Lakeland at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 910 yards in their previous games. Riverdale does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
