Basketball Recap: Cole Breeden Key Part of Team Effort in Wildcats Win

There's no place like home for Evansville Mater Dei, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They secured a 48-44 W over Mt. Vernon on Wednesday. Evansville Mater Dei has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Mt. Vernon, too.

Evansville Mater Dei's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Breeden led the charge by dropping a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Breeden a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tate Mallory, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

Mt. Vernon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nash Hostetter, who posted 14 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Brady Schickel was another key player, shooting 83% from the field en route to 13 points and five boards.

Evansville Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Mt. Vernon, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Evansville Mater Dei has already played their next match, a 49-45 defeat against Northeast Dubois on the 28th. As for Mt. Vernon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-64 win against South Spencer on the 27th.
