Basketball Recap: Arcata Comes Up Short

If Arcata was riding high fresh off their 80-40 takedown of Kelseyville last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell 75-70 to the University Prep Panthers on Thursday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Loss or not, Arcata got some senior leadership from Luke Lemke and Elias Gomez. Lemke went 10-for-22 to rack up 24 points in addition to six boards and five steals, while Gomez shot 89% from the field on his way to 19 points and five steals. The contest was Lemke's fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Heron Cromwell, who posted seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Arcata now has a losing record of 2-3.

Arcata wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-64 victory against Shasta on the 5th. As for University Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-52 defeat against Placer on the 5th.
