Football Game Preview: Leon Cougars vs. Groveton Indians

The Leon Cougars will face off against the Groveton Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Leon will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

On Friday, Leon got the win against Corrigan-Camden by a conclusive 40-14. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.

Leon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Thomas out in front who threw for 171 yards and three TDs. Thomas also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles (3.0 for loss) and defending one pass. Leon's leading receiver Cooper Stevens was Thomas' top target yet again, picking up 89 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Leon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Groveton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down Hearne 33-18 on Friday.

Groveton's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Leon, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.

Everything went Leon's way against Groveton when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as Leon made off with a 27-6 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
