Recap: East Chicago Central Cardinals vs. Culver Academies Eagles
The East Chicago Central Cardinals suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 54-27 loss at the hands of Culver Academies. While losing is never fun, East Chicago Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Culver Academies is ranked 130th).
Culver Academies' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Margaret Smith led the charge by scoring 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Seddelmeyer, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
East Chicago Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Culver Academies, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.
East Chicago Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hammond Central at 5:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hammond Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 340 points over their last five matches. Culver Academies does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
