Wausau West hasn't had much luck against Marshfield recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Warriors will square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Marshfield took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wausau West, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Wausau West turned things around against Wausau East on Thursday. They came out on top against the Lumberjacks by a score of 3-1.
Wausau West was dominant in they sets they won, taking each by at least 25 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-0, 25-0, 0-25, 25-0.
Wausau West can attribute much of their success to Ava Ngo, who had 11 digs, and Paige Ives, who had ten digs and two aces. Kaitlyn Butler also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Meanwhile, Marshfield didn't have quite enough to beat Kewaskum on Saturday and fell 2-1.
Wausau West will need to focus on slowing down Angela Barnhardt, one of several Marshfield players who made an impact when they last played. She had 12 digs and four aces. Paige Schlagenhaft was another key player, getting 15 assists and nine digs.
Wausau West's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Marshfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Wausau West has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Marshfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wausau West might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Marshfield when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
