Baseball Game Preview: Granada Matadors vs. Liberty Lions

The Granada Matadors will face off against the Liberty Lions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Granada is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

On Wednesday, Granada was able to grind out a solid victory over San Ramon Valley, taking the game 7-4.

Granada got a great performance from Alex Piscotty as he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave Piscotty a new career-high.

At the plate, Tyler Kennedy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Nadeau, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Liberty challenged Antioch on Thursday. The Lions put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-1 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Trace Hoover, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Sean Kelly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Granada, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Granada beat Liberty 10-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Do the Matadors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
