Football Recap: Elkhart Falls to Concord in First Game of Season

Elkhart unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 35-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Concord Minutemen on Friday. Despite 90 more yards than the Minutemen, the Lions couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Elkhart still got an impressive performance from Micah Jarrell, who rushed for 114 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also threw for 233 yards and one touchdown while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt. Another big playmaker for the Lions was Frankie Willis, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Elkhart, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Willis, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

BO BRUNNER went supernova For Concord., throwing for 192 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes, while also rushing for 47 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing touchdowns BRUNNER has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was DEREK GOMEZ, who picked up 70 receiving yards and one score.

Coming up, Elkhart is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Concord, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Jimtown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
