Softball Game Preview: J.I. Burton Black Raiders vs. Eastside Spartans

J.I. Burton hasn't had much luck against Eastside recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Black Raiders will head out to challenge the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. The contest will give J.I. Burton their first taste of in-conference action this season.

Last Wednesday, J.I. Burton didn't have quite enough to beat Lee and fell 4-3. The Black Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, on Thursday Eastside's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Richlands. Four seems to be a good number for the Spartans as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Braelyn Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Hall wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Sartin, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

J.I. Burton now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Eastside, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

J.I. Burton suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Eastside in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Black Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
