Baseball Recap: Riverside Wins Going Away Against Shaker Heights

Riverside never let their opponents score on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Shaker Heights Red Raiders as they made off with a 6-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Beavers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Ryan Boergert and Mason Pozo dominated on the mound. Boergert pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Pozo tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pozo has become a key player for Riverside: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mo Dolce, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Riverside's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Austin Wittreich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Riverside has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Shaker Heights, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-17.

Coming up, Riverside will host South at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Shaker Heights, they will head out to square off against Cleveland Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.8 runs per game on average), something the Red Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
