Basketball Recap: Rachael Sykes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Justice

There's no place like home for Mount Vernon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Justice Wolves on Friday as the Mount Vernon Majors made off with a 56-34 win. With the Majors ahead 32-8 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mount Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rachael Sykes, who posted 15 points and five steals. Sykes' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Natalie Turner was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Mount Vernon's record is now 9-6. As for Justice, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

When Mount Vernon and Justice next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Mount Vernon will square off against Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology and their four-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Justice will try to stop Edison's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
