Recap: Thoreau Hawks vs. Aztec Tigers
The Thoreau Hawks were the 42-25 winner over the Aztec Tigers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Thoreau took a hard 48-30 fall against Aztec on Monday. Thoreau just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
It was another big night for Nika Mckenzie, who scored 20 points along with seven steals and six rebounds for Aztec. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mckenzie has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazzlyn Gomez, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Thoreau's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Aztec, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thoreau will take on Newcomb at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Newcomb is ranked 79th, while Thoreau is ranked 87th). Aztec won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Taos at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Taos is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
