Softball Recap: Santiam Has No Trouble Against Gervais

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Santiam and Gervais, and Santiam kept the tradition alive. The Wolverines blew past the Cougars 17-7 on Friday. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Boston Flores was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Massey, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie Allen, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Santiam has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gervais, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Coincidentally, Santiam and Gervais will both be playing East Linn Christian Academy the next time they take the field. The Wolverines will host the Eagles on Monday, while the Cougars will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
