Basketball Recap: Jay Mustangs vs. Holmes Huskies

Even though the Holmes Huskies scored an imposing 81 points on Wednesday, the Jay Mustangs still came out on top. Jay secured a 85-81 W over the Huskies. Given Jay's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Huskies are ranked 448th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Baldwin, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Baldwin is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 16 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jarrius Jackson jr, who scored 19 points.

Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Amare Guerra, who scored 36 points along with seven assists. That was a full 44.4% of Holmes' points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Joseph Ramon was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.

Jay is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Holmes, they dropped their record down to 11-17 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Harlan the next time they take the court. Holmes will head out to face Harlan at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Jay will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
