Recap: McCollum Cowboys vs. Jefferson Mustangs
The McCollum Cowboys''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Jefferson 28-24. McCollum lost against Jefferson in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 28-14 score last time.
Justin Rodriguez threw for 186 yards and a touchdown on only 16 passes. Luke Landa was his top target, picking up 96 receiving yards. On the ground, Nathan Moreno rushed for 49 yards.
McCollum's loss was their fourth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 4-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Alamo Heights and 7-1 Burbank (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75% over those games). As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McCollum will take on Brackenridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brackenridge comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Jefferson, they will be playing at home against Harlandale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
