Basketball Recap: Lyrique Sartin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Sports Leadership & Management

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bell Creek Academy walked away with it. They walked away with a 73-64 victory over the Sports Leadership & Management Spartans on Friday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Bell Creek Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lyrique Sartin led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds. Sartin's evening made it 24 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Josiah Payne was another key player, going 7 of 9 on his way to 17 points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Bell Creek Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Sports Leadership & Management saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Neomar Flores posted 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Flores has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Derrick Doe, who scored eight points.

Bell Creek Academy's record now sits at 16-10. As for Sports Leadership & Management, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 16-10.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Bell Creek Academy will face off against Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clearwater Central Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they will challenge Indian Rocks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sports Leadership & Management also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 64.8 points per game.
