Baseball Recap: Ida Baker Wins Going Away Against Cape Coral

Ida Baker never got on the board in their matchup last Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Cape Coral on Friday. They put the hurt on the Cape Coral Seahawks with a sharp 12-2 victory. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Brody Root made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Root was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Ida Baker let Austin Field and Abdiel Ortiz run wild. Field scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Ortiz scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Ely Mora also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Ida Baker kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Coral onlymanaged three hits.

Ida Baker's record now sits at 2-3. As for Cape Coral, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Ida Baker will be playing in front of their home fans against Southwest Florida Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Ida Baker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Cape Coral, they will head out on the road to challenge North Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Fort Myers also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 7.8 runs per game.
