League recap: Heidelberg rises in state rank

3A Region 5 recap September 10, 2013

Heidelberg moved up to 217 from 253 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region 5. The Oilers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Newton 32-14.

Philadelphia took down Neshoba Central 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Romon Gray threw for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 90 yards during the win.

Raleigh's dynamic duo of Tiberious Ellis and Jack Batte proved tough for Mize to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ellis threw for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns and Batte had 103 yards receiving. Lee Wes Ely helped Raleigh's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 46 yards.

The Lions' dynamic duo of Ellis and Batte proved to be unstoppable against the Bulldogs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Jamarcus Bradley was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 138 yards on 16 carries as Choctaw County fell to Mize. Tay Edwards also contributed to the rushing game with 37 yards on the ground.

Batte was the best receiver in the league this week as Justin Cooley's team lost to the Bulldogs.

He was 13-30 with 3 interceptions.

Ellis put up the best numbers in passing as the Lions lost to Mize.

Southeast Lauderdale's Takari Brooks and Damion Willis have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A Region 5 in both passing and receiving yards. Brooks has thrown for 355 yards this season, while Willis has 8 catches for 219 yards. The Tornadoes' Jacardius Griffin leads the league in rushing yards with 283.

Choctaw Central led the league in scoring this week by notching 56 points on Cherokee.
