Volleyball Recap: Gulf Buccaneers vs. Fivay Falcons

If Gulf was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Anclote on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Buccaneers fell just short of the Fivay Falcons by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Buccaneers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcons 25-9 in the first set.

Gulf actually scored more points across those five sets (103-88), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 9-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Fivay can attribute much of their success to Sydney Mularz, who had 20 digs and one assist. Mularz has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Gulf has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Fivay, their win ended a five-match drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-15.

Looking ahead, Gulf will square off against Anclote at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fivay, they will face off against Cypress Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
