Softball Recap: Veterans Memorial Has No Trouble Against Rio Hondo

Veterans Memorial's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the Rio Hondo Bobcats. The Chargers have beaten the Bobcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.

Arianna Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Veterans Memorial got a massive performance out of Mia Gonzalez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Gia Perez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Veterans Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Hondo only posted a batting average of .250.

Veterans Memorial's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Rio Hondo, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, Veterans Memorial will host Hidalgo at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Veterans Memorial is facing Hidalgo at the right time seeing as Hidalgo is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Rio Hondo, they will head out on the road to challenge Lyford at 6:00 p.m. on March 18th. Rio Hondo has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
