For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Lakeview and Portage Northern meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Huskies. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Caleb McCune and Jeremiah Adams dominated on the mound. McCune tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit, while Adams tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Sam McCullough was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ian Russell, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Lakeview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage Northern only posted a batting average of .120.
The victory got Lakeview back to even at 1-1. As for Portage Northern, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2-1.
Lakeview will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Huskies: the pair will be back at it again later today.
