Softball Game Preview: Foothill Mustangs vs. Johnson Warriors

Foothill has won five straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Johnson has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. Foothill will host Johnson at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Foothill made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Burbank, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Foothill put the hurt on Burbank with a sharp 20-13 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the game before.

Meanwhile, Johnson got themselves on the board against Florin on Friday, but Florin never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Panthers. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Angelene Gonzales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Gonzales was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kayla Madison was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anissa Zavala, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Johnson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .870. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Foothill is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Johnson's win bumped their record up to 6-2.
