Baseball Recap: Blue Valley Takes a Loss

Blue Valley had lost eight straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Onaga Buffaloes, falling 9-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Buffaloes this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-1 loss on April 3rd.

As for Onaga, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. Considering they have won seven matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Onaga's part, Xavier Berges made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Berges posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Onaga got a massive performance out of Casen Hutfles, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hutfles has posted over his last 11 games. L.J. Koelzer was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat Blue Valley by a score of 12-2 later that day.
