Basketball Recap: Calverton vs. School Without Walls Penguins
If Calverton was riding high fresh off their 70-50 takedown of Yeshiva last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Calverton took a 45-29 bruising from the School Without Walls Penguins on Friday. Calverton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as School Without Walls apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2018.
Defeat or not, Calverton got some senior leadership from Justus Washington and Nathan Lauzon. Washington almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, while Lauzon posted 11 points.
School Without Walls was led to victory by Paul Joire and Tahkari Bates. Joire dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards, while Bates went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points. Joire is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chidiire Nwokwu, who put up two points and seven assists.
Calverton now has a losing record at 1-2. As for School Without Walls, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Calverton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 82-58 victory against The Lab School of Washington on the 7th. As for School Without Walls, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-50 win against Model Secondary School for the Deaf on the 7th.
