Softball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Cordova Lancers

The Kennedy Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Cordova Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Tuesday, Kennedy came up short against Antelope and fell 7-3.

Kira Griffin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Gerren Garnett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Cordova was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-1 to McClatchy.

Cordova saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Becca Lee, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Kennedy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Cordova, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kennedy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cordova struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Kennedy came up short against Cordova in their previous matchup on April 1st, falling 9-5. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
