Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Comes Up Short

Sacred Heart Prep had taken Terra Nova down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Sacred Heart Prep Gators fell 5-2 to the Terra Nova Tigers. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Sacred Heart Prep got a good showing from Kyle Sweeney, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Sweeney has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Daniel Gee was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Sacred Heart Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Sacred Heart Prep has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. The victory (which was Terra Nova's third in a row) raised their record to 3-2-1.

Coming up, Sacred Heart Prep will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Burlingame at 4:00 p.m. Burlingame is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Terra Nova, they will venture away from home to square off against Rancho San Juan at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
