Preview: Sutter Huskies vs. Pierce Bears
The Sutter Huskies are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Pierce Bears at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Tuesday, Sutter came up short against Colusa and fell 52-42. Sutter has struggled against Colusa recently, as their game on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jagger Beck, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and four blocks. Beck is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Nathan Palmer, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Pierce also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Bret Harte by a score of 43-33. Pierce has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Drew Burnum, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for he. Jared Perez was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Sutter bumped their record down to 2-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points per game. As for Pierce, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Everything came up roses for Sutter against Pierce in their previous matchup two weeks ago as the squad secured a 68-27 victory. Will Sutter repeat their success, or does Pierce have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
