Basketball Recap: Nansemond River Takes a Loss

If Nansemond River was riding high fresh off their 66-19 takedown of Oscar Smith last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Nansemond River Warriors took a 55-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Deep Creek Hornets on Tuesday. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 58-55.

Despite the loss, Nansemond River still got an impressive performance from Jordin Richardson, who went 5 of 12 en route to 21 points and five boards. Richardson's evening made it 15 games in a row in which she has scored at least 19 points.

Deep Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Herbert out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Herbert has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimora Hinton, who scored 11 points and five rebounds.

Nansemond River's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Deep Creek, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Nansemond River has already played their next match, an 81-22 win against Lakeland on the 5th. As for Deep Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-20 victory against Indian River on the 7th.
