Basketball Recap: Zion Sampaio's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Saint Andrew's over Calvary Christian Academy

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Saint Andrew can now relate to. They came up short against the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles on Thursday, falling 74-53. The loss continues a trend for the Scots in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Several Scots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zion Sampaio, who went 11-for-16 on his way to 24 points and seven boards. That's the most points Sampaio has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukas Buinevicius, who went 5-for-12 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Calvary Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cayden Daughtry led the charge by going 8-for-9 to rack up 21 points and six assists. Daughtry is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Collin Paul, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 18 points and seven boards.

Saint Andrew's defeat dropped their record down to 26-4. As for Calvary Christian Academy, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-1.

Saint Andrew's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will challenge Cardinal Gibbons at 1:00 p.m. on February 28th. One thing working in Calvary Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
