Volleyball Recap: Makenna Woods' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Deland-Weldon over Lowpoint-Washburn

DeLand-Weldon was the 2-1 winner over Lowpoint-Washburn when they last played one another on September 6th, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The 2-1 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by two points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 22-25, 25-23.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Makenna Woods, who had 13 digs, eight kills, and three aces. Woods has been hot recently, having posted five or more kills the last four times she's played. Elli Hayward was another key player, getting nine kills, eight digs, and two aces.

DeLand-Weldon's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Lowpoint-Washburn, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10.

Coming up, DeLand-Weldon will be playing at home against Urbana University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lowpoint-Washburn, they will head out to challenge Roanoke-Benson at 7:00 p.m. on October 2.
