Recap: Payson Longhorns vs. Winslow Bulldogs
The Payson Longhorns's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. They took a 48-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Winslow. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Payson of the 45-36 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chloe Hancock, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylee Redford, who scored six points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winslow to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaci Gonnie, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jauslyn Nells, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Payson dropped their record down to 16-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Winslow, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payson will take on Ganado at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Ganado is ranked 67th, while Payson is ranked 91st). As for Winslow, they will head out on the road to face off against Alchesay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Winslow focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
