Baseball Recap: Holy Cross Comes Up Short

Holy Cross had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it seven. They lost 19-1 to the Chaminade Flyers. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Flyers when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Chaminade, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-10. Considering they have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Chaminade's part, Matteo Moscheni looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Moscheni a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Danny Anicito was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Settanni, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Holy Cross is taking a road trip to challenge Monsignor McClancy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chaminade, they will be playing at home against Kellenberg Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Firebirds' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Flyers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
