Lafayette and Lexington Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Generals will be playing at home against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Lafayette is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Sayre, who was ranked fifth at the time (Lafayette was ranked 23rd). The Generals fell 6-3 to the Spartans on Saturday. The Generals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Lexington Catholic came tearing into Saturday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Mustangs 15-4. Considering the Knights have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Owen Jenkins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Wasik, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.

Lexington Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Lexington Catholic pushed their record up to 17-7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 23-14.

Lafayette might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Lexington Catholic when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Generals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
