Softball Recap: Iroquois West Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Iroquois West had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Raiders: when they faced off against the Falcons back in March, they had to take a 15-5 defeat.

Autumn Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Kyla Dewitt was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Leah Honeycutt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Iroquois West hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley struck out eight times.

Iroquois West picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, they dropped their record down to 7-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Iroquois West will host Chrisman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against El Paso-Gridley at 4:30 p.m.
