Basketball Recap: Breaker Heller Jr. Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Big Walnut

There's no place like home for Westland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Big Walnut Golden Eagles on Friday, sneaking past 64-62. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cougars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 104th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Breaker Heller Jr., who went 6-for-15 en route to 20 points and six assists. Heller Jr. is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Funderburke, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Westland's record now sits at 7-15. As for Big Walnut, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-9.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Westland will head out to take on Olentangy Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Olentangy Liberty will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Westland surely won't give up without a fight. As for Big Walnut, they will be playing at home against Briggs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Big Walnut is facing Briggs at the right time seeing as Briggs is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
