Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Concord Bears

The Piedmont Highlanders will square off against the Concord Bears at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Piedmont 2.8, Concord 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Piedmont's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Arroyo by a score of 5-0. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Dons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to George Bishop's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Piedmont let Will Parker and Diego Delventhal run wild. Parker went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Delventhal scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That triple was Parker's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Martin, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Piedmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arroyo only managed four hits.

While Concord didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Hercules on Tuesday.

Aaron Hunt was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Damian Kochaphum was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Concord's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Piedmont, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
