The quarterback for fourth-ranked
Pinnacle (Phoenix) threw for five touchdowns, two to
Marcus Libman in a 41-17 at Liberty. One was a 50-yarder to
Cade Horton, who also rushed for the game's first touchdown, lifting the Pioneers to their seventh win in eight tries.
Johnson and Libman hooked up for scoring passes of 53 and 65 yards. He also threw TD passes to
Nate Hull (9 yards) and
Shane Sunday (8) for the Pioneers, who jumped to a 21-0 lead and were never really threatened.
The state's top two teams, Chandler and Saguaro, also had little trouble, winning by scores of 49-0 and 56-0, and fifth-ranked Centennial scored a 49-0 win.
There were couple of minor upsets as seventh-ranked Brophy College Prep lost to No. 14 Perry, 38-16, No. 23 Desert Ridge beat No. 13 Queen Creek, 33-13, and No 17 Campo Verde went down to No. 19 Higley, 52-30.
