Basketball Game Preview: Jackson Day Mariners vs. Langtree Charter Academy Lions

The Jackson Day Mariners are taking a road trip to take on the Langtree Charter Academy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Jackson Day is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Walnut Grove Christian: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mariners blew the Christian Warriors out of the water with an 86-44 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Mariners had established a 21-point advantage.

Jackson Day's win last Monday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trey Gbenyon, who shot 60% from the field to rack up 14 points and three steals. Aaron Crank was another key player, going 5-for-7 en route to 13 points.

Jackson Day was working as a unit and finished the game with 28 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Langtree Charter Academy duked it out with Central Academy of Technology & Arts on Monday. The Lions came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 78-70.

Jackson Day has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 84.0 points this season. As for Langtree Charter Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Jackson Day beat Langtree Charter Academy 77-66 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
