Volleyball Game Preview: Monrovia Bulldogs vs. Beech Grove Hornets

The Monrovia Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Beech Grove Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Monrovia is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, who was ranked 14th at the time (Monrovia was ranked 22nd). The Bulldogs came up short against the Trojans on Thursday, falling 3-0. That makes it the first time this season the Bulldogs have let down their home crowd.

While Monrovia had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-18, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Beech Grove lost 3-0 to Covenant Christian on Wednesday. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Beech Grove may have fallen short, but they were sure consistent: they scored zero points in every single set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-0, 25-0, 25-0.

Beech Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Monrovia, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.

Monrovia took their victory against Beech Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
