Preview: Millennium Tigers vs. Sunrise Mountain Mustangs

The Millennium Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Millennium will be strutting in after a victory while Sunrise Mountain will be coming in after a defeat.

Millennium fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 24-10 victory over Verrado on Thursday. Millennium pushed the score to 24-3 by the end of the third, a deficit Verrado cut but never quite recovered from.

Millennium can attribute much of their success to Titus Johnson, who threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.

Meanwhile, Sunrise Mountain fought the good fight in their overtime match against Cactus on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cobras by a score of 48-45. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Logan Russell, who picked up 60 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 80 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Jason Keplinger also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.

Even if they lost, Sunrise Mountain's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Cactus' QB was sacked four times before it was all said and done. Cactus' QB won't forget Kaden Spencer anytime soon given Spencer sacked him four times.

Millennium's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Sunrise Mountain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Everything came up roses for Millennium against Sunrise Mountain when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 45-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Millennium since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
