Softball Game Preview: West Carter Comets vs. Grace Christian

The West Carter Comets will take on Grace Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for West Carter and four for Grace Christian dating back to last season.

Things were looking good for West Carter after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Tolsia by a score of 4-3.

Alyssa Willis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, West Carter saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Nolen, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Grace Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Greater Beckley Christian last Saturday and fell 6-4.

West Carter's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Grace Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

West Carter beat Grace Christian 6-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Carter since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
