Basketball Game Preview: Midland Legacy Rebels vs. Abilene Eagles

Midland Legacy has won nine straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Abilene has won nine straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Midland Legacy Rebels will welcome the Abilene Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Midland Legacy beat Seminole 62-53.

It was another big night for Diego Rodriguez, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 21 points. The game was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Varion Starling, who posted four points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Abilene). They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 88-30 blowout they got against Mineral Wells. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while the Rams are ranked 1268th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Midland Legacy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Abilene, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.
