Baseball Recap: Southwest Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Southwest lost a heartbreaker the last time they played McCollum, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's match. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Cowboys on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Dragons sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Jeiden Alfaro was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Southwest let Joaquin Zamora and David Samudio run wild. Zamora got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Samudio went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Zamora a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Raul Zuniga, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Southwest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Southwest pushed their record up to 18-5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for McCollum, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Southwest will take on Burbank at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dragons 3, the Bulldogs 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. McCollum does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
